Apac, Uganda | The people of Lango turned out in their thousands as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer and national chairman, brought his campaign trail to a resounding close in Apac and Kwania districts. The event, charged with energy and optimism, underscored the enduring bond between the NRM government and the people of Northern Uganda , a region once scarred by conflict but now steadily rising on the pillars of peace, stability, and prosperity.

In a spirited keynote address, President Museveni reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating the gains achieved under the NRM government while laying out a forward-looking agenda anchored on infrastructure transformation, fair wealth distribution, and inclusive growth. He announced that oil revenues from Uganda’s emerging petroleum sector would be strategically invested in critical national assets such roads, railways, power grids, schools, and hospitals to accelerate the country’s journey toward middle-income status.
Among the priorities highlighted was the upgrading of the Lira–Aloi–Apala–Alebtong–Abim road to tarmac, a move expected to open up trade routes and stimulate agricultural markets in the greater Lango sub-region. On the longstanding matter of cattle compensation, the President proposed a transparent and equitable flat-rate compensation plan under which each affected household would receive five cows. The approach, he said, would eliminate exploitative middlemen and ensure justice for all victims of past insurgencies.
The President further urged the people of Kwania and Lango to embrace government wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Programme, and the Women Fund, describing them as the most direct vehicles for transforming household incomes and achieving sustainable prosperity.
Ahead of the President’s address, senior NRM leaders painted a vivid picture of transformation in Apac. NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong outlined the district’s steady progress under the party’s stewardship, citing growth in education, health, and electricity access. Government Chief Whip and NRM Northern Region Vice Chairperson, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, highlighted infrastructure achievements, noting that Apac district now boasts 63 UPE schools, 7 USE schools, 1 technical training institute, and functional health centres in nearly all sub-counties.
Electricity has reached 10 sub-county headquarters, while major road projects continue to reshape connectivity across the region, including the Rwenkunye–Apac (90.9 km) road now at 66% completion, the Apac–Lira–Puranga (100.1 km) road at 80%, and the Soroti–Dokolo–Lira–Kamdini (189.4 km) road undergoing full reconstruction. Financial empowerment is equally evident, with Shs16.7 billion disbursed through the PDM and Shs2.1 billion through Emyooga to support enterprise growth.
Addressing the charged crowd, Vice President Rtd. Maj. Jessica Alupo commended the people of Lango for their unity and enthusiasm, urging them to “vote for continuity, peace, and wealth creation.” She called upon residents to deliver “over 90% support” for President Museveni as a testament to the progress realized under NRM leadership.
Echoing her message, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among, also the NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female), hailed Apac as a rising district destined to become a model of inclusive development in the North. She reaffirmed that under Museveni’s leadership, the government’s next term would prioritize turning the sub-region into a hub for production, infrastructure, and opportunity.

As the sun set over Apac Booma Grounds, chants of “Museveni Oyee!” echoed across the field, a powerful reflection of the NRM’s enduring connection with the people. For the residents of Lango, this was more than a campaign event; it was a reaffirmation of faith in a vision that continues to transform Uganda; a vision of peace, progress, and a truly rising nation.
