The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has restored electricity supply to Mbale City and neighbouring areas following a two-and-a-half-day outage caused by flooding at the Mbale substation.

The affected areas included Mbale City, Nakaloke, Budadiri, Bududa, Manafa, Buwalasi, Sironko Town Council, Puyombo, Kachumbala, and Sironko District. The outage occurred after heavy rains led to flooding that damaged part of the substation infrastructure.

UEDCL spokesperson Mr. Jonan Kiiza thanked customers and local leaders for their patience and cooperation during the restoration process.

“We thank our customers for demonstrating patience and understanding as our technical teams worked day and night to drain, dry, and fully energise the substation,” he said.

Mr. Kiiza confirmed that the substation is now operational and all feeders are supplying power. He encouraged customers who may still be experiencing interruptions to contact the company through its toll-free numbers 0800 20 30 88, 0800 285 285, and 0800 385 385 for assistance.

He also appreciated the cooperation of local leaders in the affected areas for helping to share accurate information with residents during the blackout period.

Mr. Kiiza reaffirmed UEDCL’s commitment to ensuring reliable electricity supply to support Uganda’s social and economic development.

“UEDCL management remains committed to providing reliable power for national growth,” he said.

The company extended its gratitude to the Government of Uganda for the support provided during the restoration exercise.

Power supply in the region has since been stabilised, and UEDCL continues to monitor the network to maintain steady service.
