Uganda’s newly appointed Principal Judge, Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, together with Hon. Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze (Inspector General of Government), her deputies Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe and Patricia Achan, and Lino Anguzu (Director of Public Prosecutions), were officially sworn in today at Mbale State Lodge.

Presiding over the ceremony, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni congratulated the appointees for their integrity, youth, and professionalism, describing them as a new generation capable of reforming Uganda’s justice system. He emphasized the need for a people-centered approach to justice — one that aligns judicial practice with community values of accountability and fairness.

The President observed that while Uganda has made strides in building a patriotic army and leadership, the civil service and judiciary still face remnants of colonial-era inefficiencies and corruption. He called for harmony between the justice system and the values of the people, stressing that impunity and delayed justice erode public trust.

Deputy Chief Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija also commended Justice Abodo for her past leadership as DPP and urged her to strengthen court inspections, promote plea bargaining, and support special courts for gender-based violence.

The ceremony was attended by the Attorney General, Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the Head of Public Service, Ms. Lucy Nakyobe, and other senior government officials.
