The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced a major relief for road users following the completion of a temporary detour on the damaged section of the Karuma-Kamdini Road. Beginning 11:00am on Monday, 1st December 2025, light-traffic vehicles will once again be able to safely cross the section using the newly constructed bypass.

Under the revised traffic flow plan, buses, medium trucks, vans, and private cars may now resume direct movement through Karuma–Kamdini. The Ministry emphasized that the detour has been inspected and certified for safe public use.
However, heavy trucks and trailers will continue to reroute via the Karuma-Olwiyo-Anaka corridor in both directions; Kampala to Gulu and Gulu to Kampala until further notice. This precaution is aimed at preventing excessive load pressure on the temporary passage as restoration of the main carriageway commences immediately.
Motorists are urged to drive with heightened caution and strictly observe the 30 km/hr speed limit while on the detour, along with all other traffic management instructions issued by onsite engineers.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to restoring full functionality of this critical national route and thanked the public for their patience and cooperation during the ongoing works.
