The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA)—a statutory body established under the Electricity Act, 1999 (Chapter 145 of the Laws of Uganda)—continues to play a central role in overseeing Uganda’s energy transformation. With a mandate to regulate the generation, transmission, distribution, sale, export, and import of electrical energy, ERA has guided the smooth handover of electricity distribution operations from Umeme Limited to the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL).
As part of this transition, ERA is pleased to release a comprehensive list of UEDCL officers responsible for monitoring the quality of service and reliability of electricity supply across Uganda’s regions and districts. The public is encouraged to directly contact these officers for any electricity-related concerns and make use of UEDCL’s official communication channels for prompt responses.
This strategic shift in operational responsibility marks a new chapter in Uganda’s energy landscape. To ensure continuity and reliability of service, UEDCL retained over 2,000 former Umeme employees, leveraging their experience to maintain seamless customer service and technical operations.
In line with its mandate to establish a tariff structure and approve rates of charges, ERA has also released the Schedule of End-User Tariffs for the second quarter (April to June 2025). These tariffs will apply to electricity supplied by UEDCL, reflecting the Authority’s commitment to balancing affordability with the sustainability of electricity supply.
ERA remains steadfast in its mission to issue and enforce generation, transmission, distribution, and import licenses, ensuring compliance with license conditions and driving continuous improvement in service delivery. With the transition now underway, the Authority reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable, reliable, and transparent electricity sector that supports national development goals.
