President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with and discussed a wide range of developmental issues with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Buganda Parliamentary Caucus at State House, Entebbe, last evening.
Buganda, long celebrated as the cultural heartbeat of Uganda, has increasingly emerged as a central pillar in the country’s transformation story. From the sweeping highways that connect bustling towns to thriving industries offering jobs and opportunities, to vibrant marketplaces where innovation meets tradition, Buganda today stands as living proof of what peace and purposeful governance can deliver.
During a recent meeting with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) caucus, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni offered a deeply strategic reflection on Buganda’s pivotal role in shaping Uganda’s future. Speaking with the clarity of a leader who has walked this path for decades, he reminded leaders that Buganda is not just a region — it is the strongest beneficiary of the NRM revolution and therefore a guardian of Uganda’s prosperity.
“You, the new leaders, need to defend the legitimate interests of the people of Uganda and Buganda because Buganda is the major beneficiary of the NRM revolution and anybody who does not see that is an enemy of Buganda,” President Museveni emphasised.
A Revolution That Delivered Peace and Prosperity
It is peace that laid the foundation for progress. It is peace that opened the floodgates to development. And it is peace that allowed Buganda to flourish into the vibrant hub it is today. From modern road networks easing the flow of goods and people, to new industries breathing life into local economies, to social infrastructure that empowers communities, the fruits of the NRM journey are visible across Buganda and Uganda as a whole.
In his address, the President lauded the tireless efforts of Members of Parliament from Buganda who have consistently sensitized the people, monitored government programs, and responded to the concerns of communities. Their unity has amplified development efforts, demonstrating that collective action yields tangible results.
From Service Delivery to Wealth Creation
Even with visible progress, the President cautioned that the time has come for leaders and citizens alike to shift focus from only service delivery to household wealth creation. The next frontier for Buganda is not just good infrastructure but empowered families with incomes to sustain their livelihoods.
“Strategically, Buganda is the direct beneficiary of NRM, so if all the people get involved in creating wealth, Uganda will be the most developed country in the world,” President Museveni urged.
At the heart of this vision is the need to combat land fragmentation, one of the greatest obstacles to wealth creation in Buganda and Uganda. Without addressing this challenge, sustainable prosperity remains an elusive goal. The NRM, through its policies and guidance, continues to champion organised land use and productive ventures that can transform homesteads into centres of economic growth.
Buganda’s Leaders at the Forefront
Hon. Migadde Robert Ndugwa, Chairperson of the NRM Buganda Parliamentary Group, echoed this spirit by presenting the group’s Memorandum of Understanding and reaffirming their dedication to addressing community concerns. He reminded the gathering that their mission has been to keep moving constituency by constituency, listening, engaging, and ensuring government programs truly impact the people.
The Deputy Secretary General of the NRM, Hon. Rose Namayanja, further commended the President’s wisdom in guiding development pathways and hailed the unity within the Buganda caucus. Her call was both direct and inspiring: to work harder for the people, to preserve the trust of communities, and to deliver victory not just for the NRM but for Buganda’s continued progress.
A Future Anchored in Unity and Progress
As elections draw closer, Buganda stands at a decisive crossroads. The region’s history, culture, and economic vitality give it unmatched influence in shaping Uganda’s destiny. What is needed now is unity of purpose, a recommitment to the cause of transformation, and an unshakable belief in the wealth-creation strategy that ensures no family is left behind.
For Buganda, the choice is clear. This is not just about politics; it is about preserving peace, deepening prosperity, and safeguarding the gains made over the decades. President Museveni’s message to Buganda is both a challenge and an invitation to rise as partners in transformation, to carry forward the mantle of progress, and to show the nation that where Buganda leads, Uganda prospers.
